History of Portugal in 120 minutes Walking Tour in Lisbon

This isn’t a traditional guided tour as you are probably used to, but instead a conversation with a passionate Portuguese Historian, Lourenço Pereira Coutinho, born and raised in Lisbon, that will be walking with you in the city of Lisbon for 2 hours, sharing different curiosities of the History of Portugal, while you visit some unique places in Lisbon:

- You will start this walk in the Castle of São Jorge, bringing you back to the medieval times (1147)

-Then you will walk to Terreiro do Paço and be immersed in the time of the Portuguese Discoveries (1500)

-The circuit continues in “Baixa Pombalina” to discover a bit more about the 18^th century in Portugal with curiosities like the Inquisition time, the age of the Gold from Brazil and the Lisbon Earthquake in 1755

-Your walk follows to “Chiado” and lead you to Eça de Queirós period (one of the greatest Portuguese Literature names in 19^th century)

-You will then stop for a coffee and a pastel de nata in a small cozy pastry shop Castro Pasteis de Nata (Lourenço's favorites)

- Your walk will then end in “Quartel do Carmo” bringing you to a more recent part of the Portuguese history, the revolution of April 25, 1974

About Lourenço Pereira Coutinho

Lourenço Pereira Coutinho (born in Lisbon, 1973). PhD in Institutional History and Contemporary Politics (PIUDHist), Historian.

Lourenço is a weekly columnist for the Portuguese newspaper Expresso online, co-author of the weekly Expresso podcast “A História Repete-se”, and a regular presence on the TV Channel SIC Notícias, as a commentator on historical topics, as well as national and international politics.

For over 15 years, he has been dedicated to promoting History through courses, lectures and tours aimed at private and business clients. Among his work, he has published three books on the History of Portugal and four historical novels.
