Majestic Douro Walking Tour

Walking is one of the best ways to visit any region. It is not particularly tiring, there is plenty of time to contemplate the surrounding landscape, to take photographs, to breath in fresh air and to stop for as long as one wants at sites that are worth visiting. Besides it keeps one fit and propitiates good conversations – and many silent moments too.

The Douro Walking Tour is perfect to explore the Douro region!

You will notice that our walks are quite balanced as they are suited to experienced and less experienced hikers (ca 12 kms a day). So, if you are looking for a countryside intimately connected with Portugal’s own roots, much green, water and lots of history, maybe you would like to enrol in our Douro Walk.

Starting at Porto’s airport, where you will be picked up, you will be taken to some of Northern Portugal’s most remote and fascinating places, whilst spending your nights at charming country houses and b&b (mostly run by their owners). Here you will be received as a friend and will have access to “inside” information about the region. You will also be surprised at the amount of mouth-watering delicacies you will find on your table. Try them with world-class Douro and Port wines.

Our walk will involve the city of Penafiel (and its Romanesque route), Régua (and its Museum of Douro Wine and top-class "Castas e Pratos" restaurant), Pinhão (and its eerie atmosphere and quaint tiled train-station), Provesende (an idyllic quiet little village with its unique handicrafts shop “Loja Amarela”) and the charismatic Porto which has so much to offer. You will be guided amongst pre-Roman ruins, monasteries, terraced vineyards, scenic roads, wineries, high plateaus and beautiful belvederes, preserved little villages, wine tastings at aristocratic estates and, depending on the weather, a “cherry on top of the cake” boat trip on the lazy, winding Douro river on your way back to Porto.
