"An enchanting location with the Douro River as its background"

Once Upon a Time...

On the Douro Vineyard region, and on the charming village of Provesende, we can find one of the most emblematic attractions of the region, Morgadio da Calçada. This 17th century manor opened its doors in 2012 as a result of a careful and inspiring renovation. The environment remained the same as it was before, with classic decoration and palatial style, while a more contemporary intervention was performed providing this historical unity with the most distinguished and confortable details.

The 8 rooms that where built, in what were once the stables of the house, have simple and contemporary decoration. All the utilities and materials are made in Portugal, including the mattresses, the woods, the sheets, result of a real concern of the owners. The ancient workers’ kitchen is now the place of a warm living room that on cold winter days warm everyone’s hearts with the heat of the fireplace. For warmer days, the swimming pool, rebuilt in an old warehouse, balances perfectly with the view over the vineyards. The farm not only provides a welcoming stay, but also a great tradition in the production of Port and table wine of distinguished quality. You can therefore combine a memorable stay with a unique and exquisite wine experience, by tasting true nectars, walking through the vineyards and exploring the cellar.

The surrounding valley of Douro and Pinhão, with Douro river on the side, is breath taking. The green landscape, provided by the vineyards terraces, the fresh air and the energy of the Douro river make this scenery unique. The historical village of Provesende is, by itself, a calling card, stage for a true experience of the everyday life in a village in the north of Portugal, inviting to long and beautiful walks, to explore the traditional commerce and to enjoy its peaceful environment.
