"Douro’s beauty is the result of the perfect harmony between the natural surroundings and men influence."

The Experience

Many associate the wine history and the most ancient roots in wine production to countries like Italy or France. However, this merit belongs to the wine region of Douro, one of the most delightful and dazzling regions in Portugal and one of the most ancient in the world.

Douro’s beauty is the result of the perfect harmony between the natural surroundings and men influence. Together they created the perfect conditions for the vineyard plantation on this region that produces the most distinguished nectars in the country.

The green hills, steep slopes, the serenity and beauty of the Douro River waters contrast with the white and pink tones of the almonds, gifting this region with charm and glamour, making it one of the most romantic and unique in the country.

It’s in the north that Portugal was born and where the borderlines were formed, some of the oldest in Europe. This is a region with a relevant artistic, cultural and historical legacy.

We invite you to let yourself fall in love with the surroundings, with the epical stories, the legends and, of course, with the authenticity of the region. Finding Douro is discovering the history of a region with thousands of years of stories to tell.

Reasons To Love It
  • The astonishing and unique landscapes of the Douro
  • The enchantments of the Douro viewing points
  • The historical legacy in the north of the country

Experience Itinerary

We welcome you to Porto’s airport, where you’ll be given all the information of the program and all the necessary equipment. Catch the transfer for the next destination, Penafiel, where the Vinha family awaits to welcome you to their welcoming Solar Egas Moniz. Take the rest of the day to enjoy the peace and quiet of this lovely refuge.

After the breakfast filled with typical products, we’ll head out to Paço de Sousa monastery, one of the 21 Romanesque Route monuments. This monument represents an important architectonic legacy of the Romanesque period.
After a small transfer in the middle of a truly rural landscape, we reach the Bread Museum for a walk of 7 km until we reach the village of Quintandona. When you arrive here, take time to appreciate this schist village, so well preserved. Then we head back to Solar Egas Moniz to enjoy a sunset. We suggest the company of some white port as an appetizer before dinner (7km + 450m).

Breakfast spares any introductions and the destination is a train trip with the most wonderful views over the Douro Vineyards and the Douro River itself. You’ll reach Pinhão. Leave your bags in The Vintage House and go for a walk in Pinhão. The route will be a circular walk within the lovely village of Pinhão, including its vineyards and old enchanted trails. Vintage Douro House awaits you at the end of the day (12km + 370m).

After a breakfast filled with details and after a small transfer, the walk will be through the typical village of Sabrosa and Provesende, both part of the protected area of Douro by Unesco with unique views over the Douro valley. Sleep in Vintage House Douro (14,4km + 370m).

After breakfast, we will transfer you to Régua. Arriving in Régua you will walk until you reach Quinta da Pacheca (10km + 200m; circular route).
Enjoy a wine tasting at the hotel and visit this winery. Sleep in Quinta da Pacheca.

After breakfast, you will have a small transfer to Lamego. The route of today will be full of history, passing by the Lamego Castle nestled at the top of the village and stage of numerous battles to protect the village. Lamegos´s cathedral in gothic architecture will be another ex-libris of the day with eight centuries of history: Nossa Senhora dos Remédios Sanctuary and its outstanding entrance staircase is one of the classical region postcards. Then you will walk from Lamego to Quinta da Pacheca, with unique views over the vineyards and contact with local people. The night is spent in Quinta da Pacheca (14km + 300m).

A small transfer will leave you at Régua train station. From here you will go by train to Porto São Bento station. You can walk around for 5 minutes and you will find the 1872 River House, in Porto’s riverside UNESCO world heritage, that welcomes you to the 6 bridges city.

After a typical breakfast, you’ll say goodbye to beautiful Porto and Portugal.
